2016 - PhD Molecular and Cellular Basis of Infection, Imperial College London

2012 - MRes. Molecular and Cellular Basis of Infection, Imperial College London

2011 - BA Natural Science (Mod.) Microbiology, Trinity College Dublin

    Academic Background

Dr McGeever began her studies with a broad and thorough education across Natural Sciences (including chemistry, biology, botany, environmental science, biochemistry, genetics, and microbiology) and chose to specialize in microbiology, the study of bacteria, viruses, and fungii, graduating first in her class. She went on to carry out a number of research projects in the area of infectious diseases in Imperial College London, ultimately completing a PhD on the E. coli Type 3 Secretion System effector NleG and its novel role in modulating the host immune response and cell cycle during infection. Her expertise in host pathogen interactions was further developed through examining nanoparticle protein interactions, lending her a broad remit of expertise across biology, chemistry and medicine. Her Academic Achievements include being elected Co-Chair of Gordon Research Seminar: Microbial Adhesion and Signal Transduction (July 2017); being presented with the Junior Award in Microbiology at IMI Birmingham after presentation (October 2015); winning first prize for the best presentation at Imperial Department of Life Sciences final year PhD talks (April 2015); receiving a Competitive Wellcome Trust Studentship Award to fund MRes and PhD study (1.6% success rate); and receiving awards from Imperial General Fund, SFAM Presidents Fund, and Gordon Research Conference to attend Microbial Adhesion and Signal Transduction in July 2015.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

Dr McGeever is an efficient and detail-orientated academic editor who has worked together with ESL researchers in the university sector on the development of successful research proposals and journal paper submissions for 7 years with quantitative results. She has helped academics to reduce the time to publication of their papers and increased the success rate of their research proposals. She has also designed and run workshops for academics focused on written communication. A native English speaker with a background and PhD in infection and immunity, she has developed expertise in working with scientific documents across biology, medicine, and chemistry and is adept at editing for grammar, logical flow, and conciseness. Dr McGeever joined Edanz as an Editor in 2024.

    Writing Experience

Dr McGeever has over 10 years’ experience in writing and developing innovative, ground-breaking research proposals across scientific disciplines. By assisting applicants with their research proposals, addressing persuasive language, grammar, flow, and technical content, she has at times doubled success rates. She is particularly specialized in Investigator and EU grants. She has also worked on the development of ethics documentation for medical studies and has medical writing experience.
