Academic Background
Dr North was awarded her PhD in Animal Science by the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 2019. Her research investigated the effects of dietary flavonoids on the growth performance of meat rabbits, including basic live performance and meat quality, as well as the composition of the cecal microbiome, and the fatty acid and volatile compounds profiles of the meat. She graduated with her MSc in 2015, with her research focusing on the physical and biochemical changes in springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) meat during the aging or conditioning process. In addition to her more in-depth knowledge of meat science, Dr North’s undergraduate Animal Science degree also provided her with an understanding of animal nutrition, physiology, breeding/genetics, and other livestock product sciences. More recently, Dr North has been working for an ophthalmologist specializing in refractive surgery, and has completed the Ophthalmic Assistant Course Level 1 diploma, passing with distinction.
