    Academic Background

Dr Hempstock is an experienced physiologist in the field of membrane transport. Her research focuses on tight junctions and transepithelial transport in the gastrointestinal tract. She has more than 5 years of experience in conducting basic physiology and nutritional research and in her current position she is responsible for supervising graduation research of 4th year students. She has published work in international, high-impact journals, such as Scientific Reports. Dr Hempstock is currently working on investigating the role of the tight junction protein claudin-15 in two animal models, which involves investigation of sodium transport properties as well as paracellular transport of ions and water transport using various techniques. She is knowledgeable in mammal physiology, nutritional science, gastroenterology, membrane transport, and electrophysiology. A member of The Physiological Society and the Japanese Physiology Society, she also serves on the editorial board for The Physiological Society's membership magazine, Physiology News.

    Publishing History

Dr Hempstock has authored five peer-reviewed papers including three in which she is first author, in journals such as Scientific Reports, International Journal of Molecular Science, and Journal of Visual Experiments (JoVE). She has presented at several international conferences and has been invited to speak at the Annual Japanese Physiological Society Meeting.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

Dr Hempstock has edited manuscripts, presentations, and posters for both students and colleagues at her institution, covering a wide range of topics from Nursing to comparative physiology, to cell structure and function. She is also a member of the Editorial Board for Physiology News, and she is a reviewer for Bio-Protocol. She joined Edanz as an editor in 2022.

    Writing Experience

Dr Hempstock has written journal reviews for the Physiology News, and she has written her own manuscripts.
