2020 - BSc Environmental Science, Newcastle University

    Academic Background

Mr Robinson is a 3rd year PhD student in the field of aqueous geochemistry, specifically focusing on the weathering mechanics and exploration for rare earth elements and critical minerals. His undergraduate degree was a broad generalist degree which includes training on environmental impact assessments, agricultural studies, earth and planetary sciences, and GIS. During his master’s degree, he focused on aqueous chemistry and its use in the environment. A summer project exploring the possibility of remediation of produced waters from hydraulic fracturing and a master’s thesis evaluating the rare earth element distribution of North Pennine fluorites gave him a solid foundation in analytical geochemistry techniques. The title of Mr Robinson’s PhD is “Unconventional sources of critical minerals: UK rare earth elements and lithium”, although the project has grown to study datasets from China, USA, France, Germany, and Turkey, as well as a primary study site in the North Pennines of northern England. During the project, Mr Robinson has employed statistical methods such as principal component analysis and cluster analysis for the purpose of resource exploration in areas with little subsurface data. He is knowledgeable in aqueous geochemistry, critical minerals, statistics, mineral exploration, environmental regulations (UK), and analytical chemistry. He also has experience with the R programming language, ArcGIS, Geochemists Workbench, PHREEQC, and VisualMinteq.

    Publishing History

Mr Robinson has presented at a handful of international conferences, the highlight of which is Goldschmidt 2023 (Lyon). He is in the process of having his first paper draft reviewed by his co-authors with the aim of submission in January 2024.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

Mr Robinson helped international students with English language editing during his undergraduate and master’s degree studies. During his PhD, he has edited manuscripts for undergraduate project students whom he co-supervised with his PhD supervisor. Dr Robinson has edited and reviewed manuscripts prior to submission for his colleagues at other institutions. He joined Edanz as an Editor in 2024.

    Writing Experience

Prior to his career in the sciences, Mr Robinson was a creative writer, securing an unconditional offer for English Language and Creative Writing from a UK university before deciding to pursue the sciences. Both of his degrees hosted a dissertation project in which he obtained first class marks. During his PhD, he has had the experience of writing drafts for several papers, one of which is near to submission, with the other close behind.
