    Academic Background

    Dr Kondo is a research psychologist currently involved in medical and health systems-related evidence syntheses at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Evidence-based Synthesis Program. In her current position, topics are assigned that range from clinical to health systems and policy. In this role, she has performed traditional systematic reviews, evidence maps, and evidence reviews that have included qualitative methods (typically performed to inform policy in areas that lack published research). In addition to her work with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, she has led/participated in evidence syntheses and the development of methodology for evidence syntheses for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the National Institutes for Health (NIH), and the National Academies for Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) - formerly the Institute of Medicine (IOM), and the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition, she is a Vice-Chair of the Institutional Review Board for Oregon Health and Science University. In this role she reviews the scientific merit of studies, evaluates potential benefit for participants in relation to the potential for harm, and evaluates the criteria of approval for studies in accordance with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Human Research Protections. Her own research interests focus on the intersection of behavior, culture, and health.

    Publishing History

    Dr Kondo has over 25 peer-reviewed publications, more than 10 as first author, in journals such as Medical Care, the Journal for General Internal Medicine, the Journal for Ethnicity and Substance Abuse, and AIDS Education and Prevention. In addition, she has made major contributions to studies published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, Circulation, Addiction, Psychosomatics, and the Journal of Hospital Medicine. She has presented at a number of national conferences including the Society for Behavioral Medicine, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, and the American Public Health Association.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

    Dr Kondo has edited manuscripts for both students and colleagues. She has been a reviewer for the Journal of General Internal Medicine; Annals of Behavioral Medicine; Circulation; Cross Cultural Psychology; Substance Use and Misuse; the Journal of Ethnicity and Substance Abuse; and Substance Use and Misuse. Dr Kondo joined Edanz Group as an expert reviewer in 2020.
