    Academic Background

    Dr King is an experienced molecular and cell biologist with expertise in oncology, epithelial biology, reproductive physiology, molecular diagnostics, toxicology, pharmacology, and neurology. She earned her doctorate in cell and molecular biology from Northwestern University, with a focus on epithelial cell biology and mechanisms of protein trafficking. She then went on to a 5-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she developed new transgenic animal models and 3D cell culture systems to better understand the role of cytokines, oxidative damage, and hormonal stimulation during ovulation on the development of ovarian cancer. Dr King continued her career in research and development in the biotechnology sector, creating and evaluating novel 3D bioprinted cell culture models for drug discovery and toxicology. She developed extensive experience in innovative models of the cancer microenvironment, histology and pathology, and assays for cell toxicity and apoptosis. She also led the development of a human renal proximal tubule model for toxicology and pharmacology studies for drug development and has extensive experience in renal biology. Dr King then moved into Medical Affairs, with roles in diagnostics as well as pharmaceuticals focusing on adjuvants and therapies for urological issues. She has served as a subject matter expert for women’s health content areas including cervical cancer, preterm labor, and sexually transmitted infections; additionally, she has served as an SME for breast cancer diagnostics as well as Parkinson’s disease. She has more than 20 years of experience in conducting experiments, publications, and medical education. She is currently working in Medical Affairs for a pharmaceutical company focused on adjuvants and therapies for urological issues. She is knowledgeable in molecular biology techniques, microscopy, pathology and histology, oncology, toxicology, pharmacology, molecular diagnostics, women's health, neurobiology, genetics, and reproductive biology.
