Academic Background
Dr Dawka is currently serving as Professor of Surgery at SSR Medical College, Mauritius. After obtaining his MBBS qualification and his Master’s degree in Surgery, he has practiced and taught surgery in India, Nepal, and Mauritius. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the University of Mauritius, and an Executive MBA from the National Institute of Business Management, India. Dr Dawka has an interest in teaching methodology and has worked extensively on the design of medical curricula. In addition, he is interested in travel medicine and the physiology of extreme environments. He was among the first mountaineering expedition doctors trained by the Indian Army. He has also trained under the USAID program in Nepal for Disaster Management and Hospital Preparedness and he is a qualified primary trauma care instructor.

Dr Dakwa has authored over 30 papers on surgery and medical education, which have been published in journals including the Archives of Medical and Biomedical Research. He has also reviewed many more papers as an editorial board member of multiple journals.
