2005 - Bachelor of Science (Hons), University of Melbourne

    Academic Background

Dr Brotchie obtained his doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Melbourne. His PhD research focused on the optimization of ultrasonic systems for applications related to cavitation. Following his PhD, Dr Brotchie was an Alexander von Humboldt fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Potsdam, Germany). His post-doctoral research investigated sonoluminescence from single bubbles, as well as the use of ultrasound in material synthesis and modification. He also has experience researching interfacial nanobubbles and nanodroplets.

    Publishing History

Dr Brotchie has published 14 peer-reviewed journal articles, 11 as first author, in journals including Physical Review Letters, Journal of Physical Chemistry C, Langmuir, Soft Matter, and ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

    Editing and Reviewing Experience

Dr Brotchie was Senior Editor of Nature Reviews Materials (Springer-Nature) from 2015-2017 and Associate Editor at Wiley-VCH from 2012-2015, where he handled and edited manuscripts for journals including Advanced Materials, Advanced Healthcare Materials, Advanced Energy Materials and Small. He has also worked as a freelance editor for Nature Scientific Editing and presented Nature Masterclasses. He has experience editing manuscripts in the fields of physical chemistry, materials science, and biomedical engineering. He joined Edanz as an editor in 2012.

    Writing Experience

Dr Brotchie has written two book chapters, over a dozen peer-reviewed journals articles, and research highlight articles for Wiley's 'Materials Views' blog and for Nature Reviews Materials.
