Dr Akcali is an evolutionary ecologist interested in the evolutionary causes and consequences of adaptation and speciation. He has 10 years of experience conducting field studies and publishing work in international, high-impact journals. Dr Akcali is currently working on projects that examine the evolution of coral snake mimicry as well as the relative roles of diverse mechanisms in adaptation. He is knowledgeable in agroecology, animal science, conservation, ecology, entomology, environmental studies, evolutionary biology, forestry, herpetology, ornithology, taxonomy, and zoology.

Dr Akcali has authored 10 peer-reviewed papers (6 as first author) in journals including Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, Biology Letters, Evolution, Journal of Evolutionary Biology, PeerJ, Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, and Trends in Ecology and Evolution. Dr Akcali has presented seminars and posters at conferences such as the Society for the Study of Evolution and the World Congress of Herpetology.

Writing Experience
Dr Akcali has written a book chapter on the biology of the Arizona coral snake, set to be published in 2020. He has also written several natural history notes that have been published in the journal Herpetological Review.
