Ms Kulongowski has more than 20 years of professional experience as a science editor. Most recently, she completed a 3-year assignment as chief copyeditor of an encyclopedic, multivolume, taxonomic work on the fishes of the western Indian Ocean, managing a manuscript for over 290 fish family accounts from 60 international contributors. She earned an MSc through the JLB Smith Institute of Ichthyology in South Africa, with original research on the sea catfish genus Galeichthys. She has also served as a project-specific copyeditor at two leading southern African environmental assessment firms. In addition, she worked for several years as an in-house copyeditor with the African Journal of AIDS Research, completing edits on 30 issues and more than 300 peer-reviewed papers by an international set of authors, many of whom were non-native English speakers or first-time authors. Ms Kulongowski sets a high standard for language in all fields of science and has vast experience as a team member in science publishing. She joined Edanz Group as an editor in 2016.
