Academic Background
Dr Mendis is experienced science communicator with a PhD in Neuroscience. Her PhD project was focused on developing matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-mass spectrometry imaging as a techinique to analyse post-mortem brain tissue, with the aim of detecting Alzheimer's disease biomarkers. Following her PhD she held a position as a Research Project Coordinator at UCL/NIHR as part of the Office for the National Director of Dementia Research, before making a move to being a full-time Medical Communications expert.
Publishing History
Dr Mendis has authored three peer-reviewed papers (one as a first author) and written over 40 science -based articles. She has presented as several international conferences and has been an invited speaker for Brain Research New Zealand (BRNZ), Centre for Brain Research (CBR), and Chiasma events.
Editing and Reviewing Experience
Dr Mendis has edited manuscripts and theses of colleagues at her institution. She has also edited numerouse manuscripts for academics whose first language is not English as part of her work as a freelance editor. She joined Edanz Group as a freelance writer in 2022.
Writing Experience
In addition to a strong background in academic research and experience in public health, Dr Mendis has 8 years of experience in the healthcare communications and medical education. She is passionate about delivering content that improves health outcomes, particularly in the field of neurology. Her key strengths include effective communication of complex scientific messaging and project management. She has successfully supported with the delivery of strategic, scientific and commercial programmes across the communications spectrum. Dr Mendis has worked with clients based in the UK domestic, pan-European, Asia Pacific and global environments.
