Academic Background
Dr Muir’s PhD in chemistry investigated the synthesis and NMR conformational analysis of glycosylated peptides. As a research associate at the University of Auckland, Dr Muir specialized in bio-organic and medicinal chemistry, particularly peptide and glycopeptide chemistry and the construction of synthetic vaccines. She has also worked as a science and intellectual property specialist for biotechnology companies undertaking pharmaceutical, neuroscience, and endocrinology research and has completed a PgDip in Legal Studies, specializing in biotechnology and patent law. She has written and edited numerous drug reviews, including preclinical development and clinical trial data, for peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Muir has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, including her own research and single-agent drug reviews. She has presented at national and international conferences.

Dr Muir has edited manuscripts for both students and colleagues at academic and commercial institutions. She has also worked for Adis publications (part of Wolters Kluwer Health, now a division of Springer) as a managing editor. She has 5 years’ experience as a full-time science writer and editor and over 10 years' experience as a freelance editor. Dr Muir joined Edanz as an editor in 2013.

Dr Muir has worked for Adis publications as a writer of single-agent drug reviews and she was also part of the greater medical writing team. She has written articles for pharmaceutical marketing magazines and has also written magazine articles and blogs on sailing-related topics.
