Academic Background
Dr Chastain-Gross is a seasoned editor with broad experience editing a wide range of topics in medical sciences. He was previously a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Urology at the University of Florida, where he studied the role of the gut microbiome in kidney stone formation. He earned his PhD in Medical Sciences from the Department of Oral Biology of the University of Florida, where he investigated the genetic basis of bacterial pathogenesis in severe periodontal disease, covering the areas of microbiology, immunology, genomics, molecular biology, and dentistry. Dr Chastain-Gross also has experience in the ophthalmology and vision science fields, and in bench techniques and bioinformatics approaches necessary for microbiome studies, which he taught to undergraduate students. He was previously a member of the American Urological Association, the American Association for Dental Research, and the American Society for Microbiology. He has received numerous research fellowships and has experience using statistical tools such as R and GraphPad Prism.

He has edited manuscripts in multiple subject areas, including microbiology, virology, immunology, ophthalmology, optometry, dentistry, oral surgery, urology, nephrology, anesthesiology, neurology, dermatology, otolaryngology, radiology, oncology, veterinary medicine, and alternative medicine.
