Dr Spelman is both a biostatistician with 16 years’ experience and a practicing medical doctor (general practitioner). He has worked for a variety of academic, government, and private research organizations, including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the World Health Organization, the University of Melbourne, the Centre for Population Health at the Burnet Institute, and Monash University’s School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Dr Spelman is currently Head of Statistics at the Melbourne Brain Centre and also advising statistician to the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee. He has published over 110 papers on a variety of topics, specifically infectious diseases, neurology, immunology, oncology, public health, and epidemiology. Currently, he is part of the Journal of the International AIDS Society editorial board and senior statistical reviewer for The Lancet HIV. Dr Spelman joined Edanz Group as a research consultant in 2016.
