Mr Cruikshank is an experienced editor of technical papers in the physical sciences, Earth sciences, life sciences, medicine, computer sciences, and mathematics. He is knowledgeable in organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic synthesis, inorganic synthesis, chemical kinetics and thermodynamics, chemical analysis techniques, mathematical modelling, differential equations, matrix theory, linear algebra, calculus, statistical analysis, object-oriented analysis and design, object-oriented programming, database development and administration, graphical user interfaces, and end-to-end application development. He has laboratory experience using Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, polarimetry, calorimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, chromatography, and thermogravimetric analysis in addition to experience using IBM DB2, Oracle, MySQL, IBM SPSS, Java, Visual Basic, structured query language (SQL), MATLAB, and Maple.

Mr Cruikshank has over 19 years of experience as a rewriter and editor of technical presentation materials, as well as scientific manuscripts and technical papers for publication in prestigious international science and medical journals. He lived in Japan for 6 years, where he edited technical papers for graduate students, professors, engineers, researchers, and physicians at the former Imperial Universities. He also worked onsite at the editing desk at the NTT Musashino Research and Development Center and coached graduate students in preparing and delivering technical presentations for Western audiences in the Physics Department at The University of Tokyo. He currently assists ESL authors in publishing their research in leading international science and medical journals by editing technical papers, drafting journal submission cover letters, editing authors’ responses to reviewers’ questions and comments, and drafting journal resubmission letters where necessary. Mr Cruikshank joined Edanz as an Editor in 2024.
